Analyzing Stocks

Lists of stocks
Lists of stocks can be generated many ways. All lists are available in a Standard and Analysis View. The Standard View with its Star Rating System is helpful in determining if a list is worth analyzing in the Advanced mode. The Advanced View enables you to see why the stocks are rated the way they appear in the Standard View. While reviewing the stock lists you can click on a company name to access that individual stock's analysis.

Individual stocks
There are four principal "views" provided by theScreener.com for individual stocks. Even though each view offers a somewhat different perspective, you will notice that all views have a box containing standard, helpful information just above the analysis specific to each view. Remember every term found in all views is explained in detail in theScreener.com's Glossar.

The Views
Chart: the chart view shows the evolution of the stock price and medium term technical trend line, over the past 52 weeks (whenever possible). If at any time during that period a stock was a Trading Opportunity its Take Profit / Stop line will remain on the chart from the time it became a New Trading Opportunity to the point at which it was stopped. This chart is particularly useful to those interested in seeing whether a stock is technically trending up or down, and for those who are following Trading Opportunities.

Checklist: with the Checklist View you can see in less than thirty seconds whether or not a stock is worth a closer look. It covers the absolute essentials, and does so in a way that investors can relate to easily by using green and red arrows, bold warnings, and short-and-to-the-point comments. If you decide that a stock merits a closer look the Analysis View will take you point-by-point through the elements covered in the Chart View.

Analysis View: maybe you spotted something in the Checklist View that interested you. Maybe you like to start with the View that offers the most complete explanation of a stock's current situation. Whatever it is that brought you to the Analysis View, you will find that theScreener.com explains, as clearly as is possible, the essential points of analysis relative to that particular stock.

Historical: this View is particularly useful in tracking the evolution of a stock over the past ten updates.
